7 days!!!

not yet

not yet

we are going to europe next year. he just doesnt know it yet. he’ll find out soon enough when he reads this blog *grins*

anyhows. kelvin from may june came over to my place last night. decided not to do tufted cushion after all. how very me to change my ‘made up’ mind at the last possible moment. cos the material that i have choosen looks better flat instead of tufted. also it’ll be easier to change the cover in the long run.

the prep for the diy pelamin nikah is almost done :)

i hope we are able to do the dry run by mid november and fine tune it by this year end.

finally made the call

finally made the call

finally made the call to kelvin from may june interior last night. he’ll be popping by later this evening to discuss how we are able to get the tufted cushions done, and other customised turquoise cushion covers specially for the bridal room and pelamin nikah.

lets get this part done by this month :) and next month, mr and i can make a trip to sff plentong to collect the backdrop for the pelamin nikah. the backdrop will be recycled and turned into day curtains for our future home.

and a trip to arab st with my mum and aunt this weekend to buy materials for baju nikah and all.

to the weekend!

to the weekend!

yes, i know. it’s only tuesday.

we have plans for the weekend. off to jb we go! my aunt and i, and prolly my mum too. to ssf di plentong. to buy stuff for the wedding. trying to clear up as many things as possible before the fasting month.

and a new word in my vocab list!

tufted is the word.

tufted is the word that i’ve been looking for.

tufted is the cushion that will be used for our pelamin nikah.

tufted :)

getting the tufted cushion customised so that we can use it for our own place as well :)

done

done

despite 3 years in kl, there are only a few precious things that i miss much about the place. and top of the list has got to be the picture above.

yes, that’s the sunset view from my bedroom window of the condo unit that i rented for 3 years. masya allah punyalah gorgeous, dont you think? :)

so anyway, have met up with K from MJ the sofa interior company. K went over for a short stop at my place yesterday morning to see the chair and the large cushion that i plan to use for the nikah. Vair fast kan? :)

he said that he’s able to customise the cushions accordingly. phew.

hope to get pelamin nikah diy settled by october.

after doing some simple calculations, (i’m not the brightest crayon in the box when it comes to maths, by the way), i realised that it would be an utter waste of money to customise all the cushions. Must be prudent & stick to the budget. much thanks to the JL sale at the expo, i bought 9 off white cushion covers at a low price of $3.90 each. Cheap! will look out for the perfect shade of grey next. only turquoise ones will be customised cos the colour should be consistent throughout; deco makan nikah, pelamin nikah, bridal room, hantaran, as well as the ribbons.

instead of getting the curtains done, we’ll buy the dark grey curtains at ikea or somewhere. it’ll be cheaper that way. as long as the curtains tak look ‘oh goodness! what were you thinking??”, it’s pretty much something that everyone knows it’s there but nobody goes “oh wow! such exquisite curtains” – you get what i mean?

last night we started looking around for a nice shade of grey for our bedroom walls. we kinda like ash grey. not too pale a white, yet it will still bring out the colours in our room; the whites (the furniture and the flowers); the light cream/off whites (the duvet covers, carpet and some cushions); and the turquoise (the larger cushions, the pictures above the bed, the table runners and the chair).

grey, as youcan see (or rather, imagine) has an important role to play – the supporting actor/actress that is key in bringing all the colours look put together and in harmony :p

oh i’m such a nutcase *grins*

here’s the ash grey that we are considering. by nippon paint.

the so called timeline:

july: start with the sourcing and purchases for pelamin nikah & bridal room
august: start with bantal nikah for dulang hantaran (again)
september: buy the materials for baju nikah and bridesmaids, complete the diy bantal nikah, apply for romm
october: buy the flowers for the pelamin nikah, attend marriage prep course
november: paint the bedroom, get the baju nikah tailored, complete diy pelamin nikah
december: buy the duvet cover for the bridal room
january: in comes the new mattress and bed frame. complete bridal room project.

Mock up

Mock up

errmm… this is a very lengthy post with tonnes of pictures. you’ve been duly warned *grins*

so i’ve been inspired. too inspired. supergirl wants it. supergirl does it. the beginning of the diy pelamin nikah saga. we give ourselves 6 months to get this right and perfect the look.

in the beginning, i chose this part of the living room wall.

20110705-070928.jpg

however, i’ve been having doubts about it. the colour is plain dull, for lack of better word. my theme colours (turqoise grey and white absolutely wont go with this ochre wall!) i kept googling for inspirations how i could best play around with ochre.

so i googled ‘ochre room’ and these are some of the pics that i got.

and this

horror! no go! if i were to paint that side of the wall just for the nikah, it would be a total waste of time + money + effort + manpower. cos nobody can ever appreciate the beauty of a newly painted wall colour once the deco and schmancies are up.

so i looked at the the other side of the living room. the cream walls.

20110705-070952.jpg

hmmm…seems to have potential.

so i took down the family potraits. and placed the newly bought iron rods from ikea ($19) on the ready hooks. (story behind the hooks? dad drilled ‘em pada pagi raya. serious, babes. tak bedek… the potraits were ready for a full year before dad finally had an inspiration of some sort and he decided “it’s time to hang these up!” pada pagi raya. we knew he would finally drill some hooks for the pics. but what we didnt know, it would be on pagi raya itself. hurhur)

anyway, back to the pelamin nikah mock up.

20110705-071008.jpg

a little low, in my opinion. i think i wanna put this on the wall to make the backdrop higher.

3M Jumbo Hook with Command Adhesive. holds strongly and removes cleanly with no surface damage, it is said.

20110705-071024.jpg

and TADAAA! this is a simple mock up. the prototype. to see how ‘possible’ and ‘feasible’ is my big idea for the mini pelamin nikah.

ignore the kain, the square cushions and flowers. that’s not the real backdrop. it’s actually my kain lace and kain lining for baju kurung *grins* will only buy the actual materials after we determine the height of the backdrop. and will add more flowers at the top of the backdrop. the actual thing gonna be higher and wider than this mock up.

the look will be inspired by the following pictures. gorgeous works of acclaimed wedding planners and deco in malaysia. the pics are clearly watermarked for your reference.
